Romag’s toughened glass is a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal treatment to increase its strength when compared with normal glass. If broken, it safely crumbles into smaller granular pieces instead of splintering into jagged dangerous shards as with standard float glass.
Toughened glass is physically and thermally stronger than regular float glass yet has the same level of optical clarity and quality. As a result, toughened glass is used in a variety of demanding applications: stairs, balustrades, structurally loaded glass walls and partitions, and other applications that would become dangerous in the event of breakage. You can have a look at our toughened safety glass in use on our Manchester tram station project page.
At Romag, we have a state-of-the-art toughening plant that ensures all our products are produced with maximum strength and minimum distortion. This together with our technical expertise allows us to process the latest generations of soft-coat, low-emissivity insulation glasses, solar control and many other bespoke glass variants. For added peace of mind we can also heat strengthen and heat soak test if required.
